I was pleasantly amused by the firm “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (2000). I have already written an article where I cited form the film and share my observations. Now I want to recall about our inner fiends.
“Juno knew that if he wants to win the championship, he would have to put up with his inner idols”.
Put up with or make friendship? Does he need something to change? Than was the question I had.
I remembered the New Age philosophy and famous philosopher of this time, Francis Bacon (1561-1616). After all, he also talked about his own fiends, idols. “Fiends are our false habits and prejudices which mislead us and that we should get rid of”, he claimed.
He classified idols in 4 types:
Idola specus is confusions and feelings from unfaithful life experience. One can easy get rid of them. They are our phobias, fears, character.
Idola theatri is more complicated. They are created by the faith in authority. One can get rid of this idol only accustoming yourself to look at everything with your own eyes.
As for example, Hitler and the people who followed him.
The third type is Idola fori. It is universal, age-old prejudices of humanity that people perceive form each other in the process of communication.
Have you noticed such idols?
The fourth and the most harmful are Idolas tribus which are not rooted in personal or collective delusions but in human being, the senses and the mind of humanity.
These are innate mental abnormalities or that the dog hears better person.
Bacon was recognized being the father of positivism philosophy.
Nowadays, a lot has changed, improved and some rejected. But the essence that we can deal with bad habits and change the false confusion is the fact. The most important is desire.
